Streetwear Jacket Sleeve Vents: Overlap, Opening and Finish

A sleeve vent RFQ should specify opening length, overlap direction, closure or button configuration, edge finish and the cuff relationship, then verify movement on a sample.

MyOwnWear buyer guide · Project-specific confirmation required

Show the opening in closed and open states

Provide exterior and interior views with the vent closed and opened. Mark the slit start and end, overlap direction, and which panel sits on top. Label left and right sleeves consistently. A single exterior photo may not reveal the internal underlap or how the opening is secured.

Connect the vent to the cuff

Draw the sleeve hem and cuff together with the vent edge. State whether the vent terminates above the cuff seam, enters it or uses a separate placket extension. Note the finish for exposed edges and any buttonhole, snap or other closure position. Review all of these details on one assembled sample.

Check movement and sleeve appearance

Ask the reviewer to bend the elbow and operate the closure while wearing the garment over its intended layer. Observe whether the opening spreads, twists or catches. These are review prompts, not assumed performance results; record what the sample actually does and identify the exact size and version.

Make the decision reproducible

Attach the vent map, closure reference, seam detail and sample photos to the RFQ. Use a marked-up image to identify any correction and state whether it applies to both sleeves. Link the note to the jacket tech pack revision to prevent a late message from becoming an untracked construction change.

Buyer decision record

Record the garment style, material or trim reference, sample size, revision and the question being decided. If the supplier proposes a change, ask for the changed layer order, measurement or artwork location in a marked response before treating the quote or sample as comparable.

Evidence scope

The linked references provide terminology or named-method scope only. They do not prove a MyOwnWear capability, a project result, a price, a lead time or a certification. Confirm the actual material, construction and acceptance criteria for the project.

  • Coats: Seam Types — Seam terminology and construction categories only; no project workmanship result.

Use this brief in the MyOwnWear RFQ form. Include the style, quantity, current file or sample revision and the decision you need confirmed.

Next step: ask for a written feasibility response that separates confirmed inputs from supplier-proposed alternatives, then approve the relevant sample evidence.

Keep the approved drawing, measurement or photo with the quote record so the same construction can be checked at the next handoff.

Buyer questions

What does a sleeve vent drawing need?

Closed and open views, overlap direction, opening endpoints, cuff relationship, closure and edge finish.

Should the vent be checked only on the hanger?

No. Check the assembled sample during sleeve movement and closure operation as well.
