Cargo Pocket Bellows: Specify Expansion Without Guesswork
A cargo-pocket bellows spec should show its folded state, expansion direction, attachment boundary and closure relationship so the sample can be assessed for intended access and appearance.
MyOwnWear buyer guide · Project-specific confirmation required
Separate the pocket body from its expansion panel
Draw the pocket front, side and worn view. Label the pocket body, bellows panel, fold lines, attachment edges and any gusset at the pocket base. A single flat sketch can hide whether the extra fabric expands outward, inward or only at one edge.
Call out the closed and expanded appearance
Show how the folds sit when the pocket is empty and how they should open when loaded with the intended reference object. State the closure type and its location. Avoid promising a capacity from a drawing; the finished volume and access need to be checked with a physical sample and agreed use case.
Check stress points and garment interaction
Review top corners, lower corners, flap extension and nearby seams for pulling or interference when the pocket opens. If the pocket sits over a knee panel or side seam, include that neighboring construction in the sketch. Record any reinforcement request as a separate detail, not an assumed supplier choice.
Capture the approval evidence
Photograph the pocket closed and open on the same sample, identify the size and version, and note what object or movement was used for review. Ask the supplier to return a marked drawing if a fold or seam must change. This creates a specific decision trail for the next sample round.
Buyer decision record
Record the garment style, material or trim reference, sample size, revision and the question being decided. If the supplier proposes a change, ask for the changed layer order, measurement or artwork location in a marked response before treating the quote or sample as comparable.

Buyer questions
Is a bellows the same as a pocket bag?
No. The bellows is an expansion construction; the pocket bag or body defines a different part of the assembly.
Can a flat sketch prove pocket capacity?
No. Use a closed and expanded drawing, then assess the physical sample for the intended use.
