Streetwear Jacket Pocket Flaps: Coverage and Closure Review

A pocket-flap spec should map the opening, flap overlap, attachment seam and closure on the garment, then verify access and coverage on a sample.

MyOwnWear buyer guide · Project-specific confirmation required

Map the opening and the flap separately

Draw the pocket mouth and flap outline as distinct components. Mark the flap attachment seam, finished edge and intended overlap over the opening. Include a side view if the flap is shaped or layered. This avoids treating flap width as a substitute for actual coverage.

Name the closure and its alignment

Identify whether the flap is secured by a snap, button, hook-and-loop or another component. Mark the mating position on the pocket body and show inside reinforcement if needed. A closure reference should include visible finish and color as well as the functional component.

Check access, layers and movement

Open and close the pocket while wearing the jacket over the intended layer. Check that the flap does not catch a zipper, obstruct an adjacent pocket or lift when the arm moves. Record the sample result rather than claiming that a drawing guarantees weather protection or security.

Include approval views in the RFQ

Attach flat front, open-pocket and interior views. Label the garment size and sample version, and identify any requested change at the affected corner or edge. Link the flap drawing to the pocket construction page so coverage and closure remain part of one approved assembly.

Buyer decision record

Record the garment style, material or trim reference, sample size, revision and the question being decided. If the supplier proposes a change, ask for the changed layer order, measurement or artwork location in a marked response before treating the quote or sample as comparable.

Evidence scope

The linked references provide terminology or named-method scope only. They do not prove a MyOwnWear capability, a project result, a price, a lead time or a certification. Confirm the actual material, construction and acceptance criteria for the project.

  • Coats: Seam Types — Seam terminology and construction categories only; no project workmanship result.

Use this brief in the MyOwnWear RFQ form. Include the style, quantity, current file or sample revision and the decision you need confirmed.

Next step: ask for a written feasibility response that separates confirmed inputs from supplier-proposed alternatives, then approve the relevant sample evidence.

Keep the approved drawing, measurement or photo with the quote record so the same construction can be checked at the next handoff.

Buyer questions

Is flap width enough to prove pocket coverage?

No. Show the opening and flap together, including their overlap and closure positions.

Does a flap make a pocket weatherproof?

Not by itself. Do not claim a performance level without a defined construction and evidence.
