Product and construction briefs
Rugby Shirt Sampling: Coordinate the Collar, Placket and Stripes
A rugby shirt brief should connect three decisions: the collar in its closed and open states, the placket layer order, and where each stripe meets the opening and side seams. Approve these relationships together on a sample rather than accepting isolated collar and fabric swatches.
For streetwear product developers planning a rugby-style top.
Draw the neckline in both wearing states
Show the collar point, roll direction, front opening and visible underside with the top closure fastened and released. Mark whether the collar is intended to lie flat or stand away from the neck. Supply the body material and collar reference separately; a photograph cannot reveal either material construction or the hidden support. Ask the maker to propose the collar assembly rather than assuming a particular rugby image specifies it.
Give stripes a repeatable starting landmark
Number the stripe bands from a named body landmark and state which junctions need alignment. Separate front-to-back side-seam matching from left-to-right matching across the placket. If a stripe intersects a pocket or sleeve join, identify whether that relationship is deliberate. Do not demand an unspecified perfect match everywhere: mark the visible priority junctions and ask for a feasibility response before approving the layout.
Review the assembly, not only the front photo
Request the sample closed, open and turned inside out at the front neck. Check whether the placket interrupts a key stripe, whether collar points sit as intended, and whether the fastening changes the visible opening. Record those observations against one drawing revision. A collar change after stripe approval should trigger a local recheck at the neck rather than silently inheriting the earlier appearance approval.
Decision and evidence checklist
| Decision | Include in the brief | Review evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Collar state | Open and fastened drawings | Front and underside sample views |
| Stripe origin | Band sequence from a named landmark | Marked placket and side-seam junctions |
| Front closure | Visible overlap and closure positions | Opening review on the assembled top |
What this brief does and does not establish
This is a rugby-style development brief, not confirmation of an existing pattern, material stock or production capability. Collar construction and stripe alignment require project-specific review.
Send the collar-state drawing and numbered stripe map through the MyOwnWear RFQ form; ask which neck and stripe junctions need a development sample. Open the MyOwnWear RFQ form.
Buyer questions
Should all rugby stripes match at every seam?
Only the junctions specified in the brief should be treated as approval requirements. Ask which matches are achievable with the proposed construction.
Can a contrast collar swatch approve the neckline?
It can support material or color selection, but it does not show the collar attached to the body or its behavior when fastened.
What belongs in the first inquiry?
Include the stripe map, collar views, placket drawing, body material direction and size range; request a construction proposal before committing.
