Hoodie Thumb Openings: Cuff Placement and Finish Map

A thumb-opening spec should show its location on the cuff, finished edge, reinforcement and relationship to the sleeve seam, then be checked for comfort and alignment on a sample.

MyOwnWear buyer guide · Project-specific confirmation required

Mark location from fixed cuff landmarks

Show the opening relative to cuff top, cuff seam and sleeve underarm seam. State whether the feature appears on both sleeves and if each side is mirrored. A rendering without garment landmarks can shift as the cuff size changes.

Define edge finish and reinforcement

Call out whether the opening is bound, turned, stitched or finished with another construction. Identify the material layer and intended reinforcement separately from the cuff rib specification. If the opening must remain closed when unused, say so and provide an approved sample reference.

Review reach and recovery as sample questions

Try the opening on the intended wearer or fit reference and note whether the thumb enters without pulling the cuff out of position. Check edge comfort and whether the opening distorts the cuff after use. These observations belong to the actual sample, not a promised universal fit outcome.

Keep the left and right evidence clear

Photograph both cuffs with inside and outside visible, then identify which view is the approval reference. Include sleeve size and version. Route the placement map with the hoodie RFQ and ask the supplier to flag any conflict with seam or rib construction before sampling.

Buyer decision record

Record the garment style, material or trim reference, sample size, revision and the question being decided. If the supplier proposes a change, ask for the changed layer order, measurement or artwork location in a marked response before treating the quote or sample as comparable.

Evidence scope

The linked references provide terminology or named-method scope only. They do not prove a MyOwnWear capability, a project result, a price, a lead time or a certification. Confirm the actual material, construction and acceptance criteria for the project.

  • Coats: Seam Types — Seam terminology and construction categories only; no project workmanship result.

Use this brief in the MyOwnWear RFQ form. Include the style, quantity, current file or sample revision and the decision you need confirmed.

Next step: ask for a written feasibility response that separates confirmed inputs from supplier-proposed alternatives, then approve the relevant sample evidence.

Keep the approved drawing, measurement or photo with the quote record so the same construction can be checked at the next handoff.

Buyer questions

Should a thumb opening be measured from the cuff edge?

Yes, identify a fixed cuff landmark and show the opening endpoints and side orientation.

Can the cuff spec alone define a thumb opening?

No. Document the opening finish and its relationship to sleeve seams as a separate feature.
