Packaging Ink Rub Transfer: Scope a Sample Inquiry Before Approving Print

Identify the printed packaging specimen, the surface it may contact and the handling condition you want evaluated. Ask the supplier or suitable laboratory to propose a method and acceptance basis. A casual rub observation should not be presented as a certified test result or universal pass grade.

For brands reviewing printed garment packaging samples.

Map the contact pair before requesting a test

Describe the packaging format and the printed face being reviewed. Name the material that may touch it, such as a garment face or another packaging surface, using the actual project configuration. Mark whether the observation concerns transfer onto the garment or smearing on the printed package itself. These are different observations. If the packaging supplier uses a substitute material for a trial, record that substitution and ask whether the result is relevant to the intended contact pair.

Identify the specimen and preparation state

Keep the print revision, substrate reference and known preparation information with the sample request. Ask the supplier what curing or waiting conditions apply rather than supplying a guessed interval. Note whether the specimen is a production-intent print or an early visual mock-up. A mock-up may answer a layout question without representing the proposed final print process. Preserve an unhandled comparison specimen if the agreed review requires one, and label it so it is not confused with the handled sample.

Request conditions rather than inventing a grade

Describe the handling concern in ordinary project terms and request a proposed evaluation method. If the buyer needs a formal result, have the suitable reviewer specify the method, specimen preparation, contact material and reporting requirements. Do not borrow a numerical grade from an unrelated print test. Keep any informal dry or damp observation clearly labeled as informal and condition-specific. A visually clean result under one condition does not establish resistance under all storage, transit or use conditions.

Record both surfaces and the release decision

Photograph and describe the printed face and receiving contact surface after the agreed evaluation. Link the observations to the specimen identity and method used. Separate what was seen from any proposed cause or remedy. If a material, ink or finish changes afterward, ask whether the prior evidence still applies instead of transferring approval automatically. Record the buyer’s release decision and any remaining limitation. This inquiry addresses packaging print transfer, not abrasion performance of decoration printed directly on a garment.

What this brief does and does not establish

No test standard, grade, compliance result or packaging performance is claimed. These are inquiry fields for obtaining a suitable evaluation. MyOwnWear packaging materials, print processes and acceptance requirements remain subject to project-specific confirmation.

Buyer questions

Can a visual mock-up prove transfer resistance?

Not unless it represents the relevant materials and process and is evaluated appropriately.

Is an informal rub a certified result?

No. State its limited conditions and request a formal method when needed.

Can the result follow a changed ink automatically?

Do not assume so. Ask whether new evidence is required for the changed configuration.
