Private label packaging
Private Label Streetwear Packaging Guide
Packaging turns a production order into a brand-ready shipment. Use this guide to define labels, hangtags, polybags, size stickers, and carton marks before sending a private label RFQ.
Main brand identity inside garments.
Retail and collection information.
SKU and packing control.
Warehouse and shipping clarity.
Packout and data control
Packaging is a product specification with variable data.
A neck label, care label, hangtag, bag, sticker and carton mark do different jobs. Each needs an approved file, physical specification, placement rule and connection to the correct style, color, size, SKU and destination. Plan that system before bulk packing begins.

| Component | Buyer input | Sample or proof | Bulk control |
|---|---|---|---|
| Neck or brand label | Artwork, dimensions, material or finish, fold, colors, attachment and placement. State whether size is combined or separate. | Readability, edge or fold, handfeel, color, attachment and the position against the garment seam or neck construction. | Approved file version, placement reference, size mapping and correct label count by style. |
| Care and size label | Buyer-approved text, languages or symbols where required, fiber and care content supplied by the buyer, dimensions, material, size values and attachment. | Legibility, print durability direction, fold, comfort, correct size data and relationship to the brand label. | Final text source, size table, version lock and a check that each garment receives the correct variable label. |
| Hangtag | Artwork, dimensions, stock or finish direction, number of cards, hole, string or fastener, attachment point and any buyer-supplied price or barcode data. | Print, color, dimensions, finishing, attachment, scan or text accuracy where applicable and presentation on the garment. | Approved artwork, variable-data source, attachment rule and quantities by style or market. |
| Polybag or garment bag | Bag type, dimensions, transparency or finish, closure, ventilation if specified, buyer-supplied warning text and sustainability claim only when supported. | Garment fit inside the bag, fold, presentation, protection, closure and readable approved text. | Approved bag reference, packed dimensions, fold method, bag quantity and exception rules for different products. |
| Size, SKU or barcode sticker | Sticker dimensions, placement, color, size value, style-color-size code and barcode or SKU data supplied by the buyer. | Print clarity, adhesion, scan result where applicable, placement and correct mapping to the packed garment. | One master data table, unique code rules, sample labels and reconciliation against the packing list. |
| Carton mark | Brand or consignee name, style, color, size ratio, quantity, carton number, destination and other buyer-supplied receiving fields. | Layout, readability, carton placement and agreement with the packing and shipment records. | Approved carton-mark file, carton numbering logic, assortment rule and final count before handoff. |
Define data ownership
Decide who supplies, verifies and approves every changing field.
Brand-owned
Identity and market-facing content.
Logo, brand name, care or market text, retail price, barcode or SKU source, claims and destination-specific instructions should come from the buyer in an approved version.
Factory-reviewed
Production feasibility and application.
Material route, dimensions, attachment, placement, packed size, carton fit, print method and practical minimums should be checked against the garment and order.
Shared approval
The physical proof and mapping.
The buyer approves appearance and data; the factory confirms the application and packout route. Both sides should reference the same file version and style-color-size table.
Packout sequence
Test one complete packed unit before repeating the process.
The sequence can vary by product, but the approval record should show when each component is applied and checked.
- 01Apply garment labels
Confirm neck, care and size labels are correct for the style and size before final garment inspection.
- 02Complete final QC
Finish measurement, workmanship and decoration checks before folds or bags make the garment harder to inspect.
- 03Attach retail components
Apply hangtags, inserts or approved external labels at the defined attachment point.
- 04Fold, bag and identify
Use the approved fold, bag and size/SKU sticker placement and verify the code against the garment.
- 05Pack and mark cartons
Follow the assortment and packing ratio, then reconcile carton marks, carton numbers and quantities with the packing record.
Mismatch prevention
Packaging errors usually begin as data errors.
Right garment, wrong size sticker: size data was not reconciled against the physical label and garment.
Right artwork, old version: the approved file was not locked before printing labels or hangtags.
Correct unit, wrong carton: the style-color-size assortment and carton numbering rule were not connected.
Garments ready, bags delayed: packaging was treated as a final step instead of a material with its own proof, minimum and readiness date.
Quote-ready example
Send a packaging map, not only a logo file.
Two hoodie styles and one T-shirt style; quantity by color and size attached; woven neck labels plus separate care and size labels; one shared hangtag with buyer-supplied SKU field; clear polybag with size sticker at top-right; style-color-size code table attached; 20 mixed pieces per carton according to the packing matrix; carton mark artwork and destination attached; one packed-unit proof required before bulk packing.
Packaging buyer answers
Direct answers for the RFQ.
When should private label packaging be confirmed?
Private label packaging should be confirmed during RFQ and sample review, not after bulk production starts, because labels, hangtags, stickers, polybags, and carton marks can affect artwork approval, material MOQ, and lead time.
What should buyers send for a streetwear packaging RFQ?
Buyers should send logo files, label type, label dimensions, hangtag artwork, polybag requirements, size or SKU sticker rules, carton mark format, product type, quantity, size range, destination country, and expected timeline.
Can packaging be reviewed with low MOQ streetwear orders?
Yes, packaging can be reviewed with low MOQ streetwear orders, but custom packaging materials may have their own MOQ, setup, artwork, and timing requirements.
