Product and construction briefs
Contrast Piping on Tracksuits: Resolve Corners, Ends and Intersections
A contrast-piping brief should show the visible line at straight runs, corners, terminations and seam intersections. Identify which segment continues and where the piping ends. A loose trim or straight stitched strip cannot approve a tight turn or a bulky junction on the assembled tracksuit.
For tracksuit designers using a continuous contrast line.
Distinguish the visible line from the trim component
Draw the face-side piping path and separately request the proposed piping construction. State whether the desired appearance is raised or flat, and mark the visible amount as a design value for review. Do not assume a material name specifies the finished exposure. Include the surrounding shell panels so the maker can explain how the trim enters the seam and which edge defines its position.
Number every corner and termination
Use detail callouts for turns near pockets, waistband joins and sleeve or leg intersections. At a crossing, identify the line that must look continuous and show the intended overlap or interruption. Ask for an alternative if the requested turn cannot be made cleanly with the proposed trim. A change in corner shape can alter the graphic layout, so it needs a drawing decision, not only a sewing note.
Approve the difficult junction before the complete set
Request a small assembled section containing the most demanding turn and enough straight run to judge consistency. Review bunching, uneven exposure and the visible end treatment. Then check the corresponding jacket and trouser locations on the full sample. The detail approval defines that construction only; a different trim width, shell material or intersection should be rechecked where it changes the visible line.
Decision and evidence checklist
| Decision | Include in the brief | Review evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Visible path | Raised/flat intent and exposure line | Face-side annotated drawing |
| Junction rule | Continuing segment and termination | Numbered corner detail |
| Sample scope | Most demanding turn and material stack | Assembled corner plus full-set review |
What this brief does and does not establish
This is an appearance and construction brief, not confirmation of a stocked piping option or guaranteed corner geometry. Review feasibility on the proposed materials.

Buyer questions
Can a trim swatch approve piping?
It can support color and material selection but not the exposure or corner behavior after sewing.
Should piping always continue through a crossing seam?
No. Define which line continues, overlaps or stops according to the intended design.
What should be resampled after a trim change?
Recheck the affected corner, end or intersection on the new material combination.
