Soft Hood Visors: Specify Projection, Support and Storage

Define a soft hood visor through its front projection, supporting layer and attachment to the hood opening. Review it raised, worn and stored. A visible brim is a design feature; rain protection, sun protection and shape recovery should not be inferred from its appearance.

For outerwear buyers adding a soft visor to a hood opening.

Draw the projection from a fixed reference

Provide front and side views showing where the visor begins relative to the face opening. Mark the projection at the center and ends rather than using a single floating length. Explain whether the edge should curve, remain flat or follow a supplied shape reference. Ask the developer to identify the finished seam line used for measurement. The visible outline and the cutting outline are different records, especially where layers turn inside the brim.

Identify the support proposal

Separate the outer fabric, underside and any internal supporting material in the component list. If the support has not been chosen, request alternatives with their actual identities. Ask how each option behaves when the visor is bent for storage and then released. Do not write “flexible support” as if that establishes a measurable recovery target. Keep the support sample and garment revision connected so a later change in stiffness can be traced to an identified material.

Review the hood opening with the visor attached

Use the intended underlayer and closure position for a sample fit review. Look at the side profile, the wearer’s forward view and the way the visor joins the hood edge. If there is a drawcord, inspect the visor with the opening relaxed and adjusted. A brim approved in isolation may sit differently on the complete hood. Record any interference at the ends as a specific location, rather than making a general comment that the hood feels wrong.

Specify the handling state

Show how the hood and visor should sit when lowered, packed or otherwise stored. Ask whether the proposed support tolerates the intended packing arrangement and what evidence is available. Do not prescribe a fold through an unidentified support layer. Review the delivered appearance after the sample has been handled in the proposed way. Any claimed recovery or weather function requires a separate agreed assessment, not a photograph of a neatly shaped new sample.

What this brief does and does not establish

This is a fashion-development brief, not evidence of weather protection, optical safety, material recovery or production capability. Support selection and handling suitability require project-specific confirmation. Avoid sun-protection or waterproof language without separate valid evidence.

Buyer questions

Does a visor make the hood waterproof?

No. A projecting shape does not establish water protection.

Can support material remain unnamed?

Not for controlled approval. Identify the proposed support or mark it as an unresolved development choice.

Should the lowered hood be reviewed?

Yes. Storage and off-head appearance are part of the intended garment configuration.
