Fabric Bow and Skew Lab RFQs: Separate Yarn Geometry From Print
A bow and skew laboratory RFQ should identify whether the concern is woven filling yarns, knitted courses or printed geometric designs. ASTM D3882-08(2025) publicly covers these assessment subjects. Ask the laboratory to confirm the applicable method and reporting basis; the standard title does not provide a universal garment tolerance or diagnose a twisted seam.
For buyers reviewing directional woven or knitted streetwear fabrics.
Identify the geometry being questioned
Describe the visible concern and name the reference feature: yarn direction, knitted course or printed line. Include a photograph with specimen orientation marked. Do not use print distortion and fabric-structure distortion as interchangeable descriptions. They may need separate observations even when they appear together in the same material, and the laboratory should know which question the buyer wants answered.
Preserve direction and specimen identity
Label the material reference and relevant directions as supplied. Keep rolls or lots distinguishable where that information is available. Ask the laboratory how specimens should be selected and prepared. Avoid cutting unmarked pieces that lose their orientation before review. A geometrical result is harder to interpret when the report cannot reconnect it to the fabric direction and submitted source.
Confirm the public method scope
The ASTM D3882-08(2025) page states that the method determines bow and skew of woven filling yarns and knitted courses. It also states that printed geometric designs can be measured. Present the method as a proposed route and ask the laboratory to confirm suitability. Do not recreate the paid procedure or claim that its scope supplies every detail needed to perform the test.
Ask for an interpretable report
Request the assessed feature, specimen identities, method edition and results in the laboratory's stated reporting basis. Ask for marked images where useful to connect a result to the original concern. Keep separate observations separate rather than combining them into a single unexplained crookedness verdict. The buyer should be able to see what was measured, not merely receive a standard number on a certificate.
Keep garment effects outside an unsupported inference
A fabric geometry result does not by itself diagnose pattern, cutting or assembly causes of a garment appearance issue. If the complaint involves a twisted seam or misplaced motif, include that context and request the appropriate additional review. Do not present the fabric test as proof of every cause or promise that passing it guarantees straight-looking seams in every finished style.
Agree the decision basis before release
Ask the responsible parties to establish any contractual acceptance criteria and sampling scope. No universal tolerance is offered here. Link the final decision to the tested materials and approved reference. Send MyOwnWear the fabric concern and garment context to request a suitable review proposal, keeping laboratory evidence and the production-release decision as explicitly connected but distinct records.
Decision and evidence checklist

| Identity | Material source and directions | Labeled specimens |
| Decision | Applicable method and agreed criteria | Scoped laboratory report |
What this brief does and does not establish
The cited public scope supports terminology and subject coverage only. No licensed procedure, specimen setting or universal pass limit is reconstructed.
- ASTM D3882-08(2025): Bow and Skew in Woven and Knitted Fabrics: The public scope covers bow and skew of woven filling yarns and knitted courses, and printed geometric designs. The laboratory must confirm the applicable edition, specimen plan and reporting basis; no universal tolerance is inferred.

Buyer questions
Can printed designs be within the public scope?
Yes. The ASTM page states that printed geometric designs can also be measured.
Does a bow/skew result diagnose every twisted seam?
No. Garment construction may require separate investigation.
Is a universal tolerance supplied here?
No. Agree the applicable acceptance basis with the responsible parties.
