Custom Development vs Adapted Base Garment: Set the Scope First
A sourcing brief should distinguish a new pattern and construction from an adapted base garment, then list the changes required and the evidence needed to approve each route.

Define what must be original
List the required silhouette, block, panel layout, pocket geometry, fit and construction. Mark which parts can be adapted and which are non-negotiable. The word custom is too broad to tell a supplier whether the request is a new development or a decoration change to an existing base.
Ask the supplier to identify the starting point
For an adapted route, request the base style reference and a list of what changes: fabric, measurements, seam details, labels or finish. For a new build, identify the pattern and sample inputs needed. Keep these routes separate in the quote so the buyer can see the basis of each option.
Compare sample evidence and revision control
Agree which garment sample will demonstrate the fit and construction decisions for each route. Record feedback against labeled components and a version. Do not infer that a base garment already meets a new fit or quality requirement without reviewing it against the brief.
Choose with a decision matrix
Compare development ownership, material choices, artwork, pattern handoff, sample scope and change approval. Ask the supplier to confirm any exclusions or assumptions in writing. Include target quantity and destination in both RFQs so the offers remain comparable.
Buyer decision record
Record the garment style, material or trim reference, sample size, revision and the question being decided. If the supplier proposes a change, ask for the changed layer order, measurement or artwork location in a marked response before treating the quote or sample as comparable.
Evidence scope
The linked references provide terminology or named-method scope only. They do not prove a MyOwnWear capability, a project result, a price, a lead time or a certification. Confirm the actual material, construction and acceptance criteria for the project.

Use this brief in the MyOwnWear RFQ form. Include the style, quantity, current file or sample revision and the decision you need confirmed.
Buyer questions
Does adding a logo make a base garment fully custom?
Not necessarily. List which fit, fabric and construction elements change in addition to decoration.
What should a buyer request for an adapted base?
The base reference, proposed changes, exclusions and sample evidence needed for approval.
