Corded Pintuck Tops: Brief the Raised Line and Its Endpoints

Distinguish the fabric fold, inserted cord and visible stitch line in a corded pintuck proposal. Map the raised route and endpoints, then obtain a section sample showing the proposed relationship between those elements.

For designers developing dimensional line details.

Show route and construction separately

Locate line starts and ends from garment landmarks. Request a simple cross-section explaining fabric, cord and stitches. The buyer need not invent a sewing recipe to ask a clear construction question. If a reference may show cord applied to the surface, flag uncertainty and request alternatives. Do not approve one method under another name simply because both look raised. Retain the agreed interpretation with the sample rather than relying on a product nickname.

Specify the visual hierarchy

Use a physical or scoped visual reference to distinguish a subtle ridge from a prominent feature. Keep cord and fabric identities attached to the sample. Cord visibility, stitch contrast and ridge spacing are separate decisions. Strong side lighting can exaggerate relief, so compare under agreed presentation conditions before changing components. Ask for a close detail and a full garment view; a technically neat ridge may not produce the intended visual balance at normal viewing distance.

Resolve endings and crossings

Request details where the corded route terminates, meets a seam or turns. State whether it disappears into another construction or finishes visibly in a panel. Inspect the reverse so the internal endpoint is not implicit. When ridges cross, ask for a proposed junction rather than drawing overlapping lines and assuming bulk will solve itself. Keep any alternative junction sample clearly labeled, because appearance approval of one route does not approve every construction option explored during development.

Control component changes

A different cord is a construction change even if outer color looks similar. Ask which observations need repeating after cord, fabric or route changes. Retain the section sample with the garment because a drawing cannot preserve physical relief. Care, migration and repeated-use questions need defined evaluations. A visually accepted ridge does not prove the component remains unchanged after use. The order confirmation should identify the actual sampled combination and any unresolved performance questions, not just a generic raised-line description.

What this brief does and does not establish

A working construction request pending maker confirmation, not sewing settings or performance evidence. Confirm materials, actual method and feasibility. No care result or manufacturing capacity is claimed.

Buyer questions

Is this couching a cord onto the face?

No. This request concerns cord within a fabric fold. Ask the maker to distinguish alternatives if the reference is ambiguous.

Can a drawing approve ridge height?

It expresses intent; a physical section sample is a better approval reference for relief.

May a similar cord be substituted?

Identify the change and review the affected construction rather than assuming equivalence.
