Measurement Workbooks: Choose the Master Before Converting cm and in
Choose the authoritative measurement unit before creating a converted view. Preserve the source values, identify how the other column is derived and prevent repeated conversions from silently changing the specification. Unit conversion, display rounding and acceptance tolerance are separate decisions and should be labeled separately.
For technical designers exchanging apparel specifications across unit preferences.
Declare the authoritative column clearly
Put the master unit and revision in the workbook instructions and beside the measurement table. A pair of equally prominent columns can leave a recipient unsure which values control when displayed numbers do not appear to match exactly. Identify whether the converted values are informational or approved for operational use. Do not create a second master by allowing independent edits in both columns. Route a requested specification change back to the authoritative source.
Preserve the derivation rather than retyping it
Use a documented conversion method that can be inspected and keep original values available. Check formulas and references on a copy of the workbook before release. Do not paste a rounded converted view over the master and then convert it back for the next recipient. The handoff should explain what was calculated and what was entered by the technical owner. Keep example or test cells distinct from actual garment specifications.
Separate display from an acceptance rule
State the intended displayed precision and whether it changes only appearance or the underlying data. A rounded cell display should not silently become a new garment tolerance. If the buyer wants to change an acceptance rule, issue that as a separate decision with the relevant owner. Review extreme and non-whole values in the actual sheet to catch unexpected display or formula behavior. Do not prescribe a universal rounding practice for every garment or measurement point.
Verify the file the supplier actually receives
Ask the recipient to open the released workbook and confirm the master label, representative values and formula behavior where relevant. A PDF reference can help compare appearance but does not demonstrate the editable workbook is intact. Record the accepted revision and protect the intended source-control process without assuming any software lock is infallible. If a unit preference changes later, create a controlled view rather than overwriting the established measurement history.
Decision and evidence checklist

| Derivation | Source values and conversion method | Formula and reference review |
| Reception | Displayed and underlying values | Received-file check |
What this brief does and does not establish
This guide controls data authority and derivation. It does not supply garment dimensions, tolerances or a universal rounding rule, and it is distinct from locale parsing.
State your master unit and send a controlled workbook; ask the technical team to confirm receipt without converting the master back and forth. Open the MyOwnWear RFQ form.
Buyer questions
Can both unit columns be independently edited?
That risks conflicting masters. Agree one source of authority and a controlled process for changing the specification.
Does display rounding change tolerance?
It should not do so implicitly. State the display rule separately and obtain explicit approval for any acceptance-rule change.
Is a PDF enough to validate the workbook?
No. It can confirm appearance, while the receiving-file check must address the actual workbook and relevant formulas or values.
