Garment Review Videos: Confirm Left and Right Before Marking Changes
Before using a garment review video to request a change, confirm whether left and right mean the wearer’s sides and whether the delivered clip has been mirrored. Record a visible orientation reference with the identified sample. A screen-side instruction such as move the left pocket is not a complete revision instruction.
For remote apparel developers reviewing asymmetric streetwear samples with a supplier.
Establish the orientation inside the recording
Ask the reviewer to identify the wearer’s left and right while showing a known garment landmark, such as the pocket or opening that the approved drawing places on one side. Record that reference in the same clip as the observation. Do not assume every camera application saves the same orientation as its preview. If the origin or editing history is unknown, mark orientation unresolved and request confirmation before assigning a side-specific change. For a garment on a table, define front, back and the intended wearing orientation explicitly.
Keep original footage separate from presentation edits
Request the source clip used for the review and retain the delivered filename with the sample identity. If someone crops, rotates, flips or adds captions to a copy, label that copy as edited and preserve the relationship to the original. A caption can help locate a detail, but it is not independent proof of the garment side. Ask which file the supplier is expected to use for revision work. Avoid forwarding an unlabeled screen recording that removes the orientation reference while leaving a confident change instruction.
Connect each change to a view and a time reference
Write each observation with the sample revision, garment side, feature name and clip time. Add a still from that point when the motion makes the intended feature hard to locate. A time reference locates evidence; it does not explain the requested outcome. State the desired change separately and connect it to the drawing or technical sheet that will be revised. If a mirrored copy already circulated, withdraw the ambiguous instruction and issue a corrected note rather than asking each recipient to mentally reverse the screen.
Close the ambiguity before approving the next revision
Ask the recipient to point to the same feature on the sample or annotated drawing and restate the proposed change using wearer-side language. Keep unanswered orientation questions open rather than converting them into approval by silence. Review the corrected feature in the next identified sample and keep other observations separate. This workflow supports a shared interpretation of the footage; it does not prove fit, workmanship or production conformity from video alone. Agree the recording and file-sharing method with the supplier before making it a project requirement.
Decision and evidence checklist
| Decision | Include in the brief | Review evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Orientation | Wearer left/right and a known garment landmark | Unambiguous reference inside the clip |
| File lineage | Original clip and labeled edited derivatives | Filename relationship and sample identity |
| Revision note | Side, feature, time and intended change | Recipient confirmation on the same feature |
What this brief does and does not establish
This is a proposed remote-review communication method, not a claim about any camera application or proof of garment conformity. MyOwnWear recording, file-sharing and review arrangements require inquiry confirmation.
Send the sample identity, asymmetric feature map and proposed review format; ask how orientation and revision notes can be confirmed together. Open the MyOwnWear RFQ form.
Buyer questions
Can screen left be used as garment left?
Only if the convention is explicitly defined and confirmed. Wearer-left language plus a visible landmark is less ambiguous across front and back views.
Does readable lettering prove the clip was never mirrored?
It may be a useful clue, but it does not establish the complete editing history. Confirm orientation using the identified sample and its approved feature map.
What if a flipped clip already produced revision comments?
Withdraw or correct the affected comments, identify the authoritative footage and ask the recipient to reconfirm each side-specific instruction.
