Denim Busted-Seam Requests: Show the Inside Assembly You Mean
When requesting a busted seam on denim, provide an inside reference showing the allowances opened apart and the edge treatment you expect. The trade name alone may not resolve the assembly. Ask the developer to confirm the intended seam, wash stage and workmanship review before using the reference as an approval standard.
For denim buyers requesting a deliberately visible inside seam treatment.
Replace the shorthand with a cross-section
Mark the exact garment seams where the requested treatment applies. Add a simple cross-section showing how the joined layers and allowances are intended to lie, then ask the developer to confirm the interpretation. Identify any contrast thread or visible edge finishing separately. Do not assume a reference from one denim style defines every join on another. A location map prevents a general construction note from being applied to pockets or junctions that were never reviewed.
Ask how the inside is meant to be seen
Specify whether the inside treatment is a wearer-facing finish, a turned-cuff detail or part of a product photography requirement. These viewing states may expose different portions of the seam. Request a clear inside view without manually spreading the allowances into an artificial pose. If a sample must be arranged to match the reference, record that limitation. The review should describe what the assembled garment actually shows, not just what can be staged for a photograph.
Review the intended finished state
Identify whether the approval sample is before or after the proposed garment finishing process. Compare the inside assembly in that stated condition, including intersections and any deliberately exposed thread ends. Ask for the intended edge treatment rather than inferring durability from a tidy seam. If washing or another finishing step is changed, request a focused review of the affected join. Do not borrow a strength or care claim from another denim construction.
Resolve exceptions at intersecting seams
At bulky junctions, ask the developer to identify where the proposed seam treatment changes or stops. Show those exceptions on the approved map so the inspector does not reject an agreed transition or accept an undocumented shortcut. Record the inside finish and outside appearance as separate observations. The purchase specification should refer to the approved sample revision and exceptions, not simply repeat busted seam as a catch-all instruction for the entire garment.
Decision and evidence checklist
| Decision | Include in the brief | Review evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Interpretation | Open-allowance cross-section and locations | Developer-confirmed drawing |
| Viewing state | Inside, cuff or photography use | Unstaged sample evidence |
| Exceptions | Junctions and finishing stage | Marked approval map |
What this brief does and does not establish
The term is treated as buyer shorthand for a confirmed drawing. No universal seam recipe, denim performance or MyOwnWear process availability is asserted.
Send an inside reference and a marked seam-location map; request a construction interpretation with any junction exceptions. Open the MyOwnWear RFQ form.
Buyer questions
Does the name define the edge finish?
Not reliably enough for an order. Ask for the proposed edge treatment and an inside sample view at the identified seam.
Can one seam treatment cover every junction?
Do not assume so. Record proposed exceptions where several layers or seams intersect, then approve those locations explicitly.
Is the finish a strength guarantee?
No. Appearance and assembly review do not establish seam strength. Any performance requirement needs a separate evidence plan.
