Trouser Hem Kick Tape: Locate the Protected Contact Area

For this project brief, kick tape is a named strip placed at a specified trouser-hem contact area. Draw its position, exposed edge and relationship to the turned hem. Request a sample on the proposed trouser fabric. The name does not establish abrasion resistance, service life or a standard placement for every silhouette.

For technical designers developing long or wide-leg streetwear trousers.

Locate the contact area on the garment

Mark the intended strip on an inside and outside hem drawing. Say whether it follows the entire opening or only a local region. Identify front and back so a symmetrical-looking strip cannot be installed in the wrong place. If the design aims to address a particular contact, describe that contact explicitly rather than asking for generic hem protection.

Resolve the relationship with the fold

Show the turned hem, strip and stitch line in a simple section view. Identify whether any tape edge should be visible below the fabric. Keep the intended visual line separate from the proposed attachment. A tape positioned entirely inside the fold and one exposed at the bottom are different proposals even if the same material reference appears in the bill of materials.

Review the proposed strip and main fabric together

Ask the developer to identify the strip material, face and edge treatment. Review it against the actual trouser fabric rather than accepting a loose tape alone. Examine the local stiffness and appearance as sample observations. Do not infer compatibility from matching colors or from a supplier calling the component durable; request evidence for any performance statement that matters to the purchase.

Check corners and joins

Ask where the strip starts, ends or joins around the leg opening. Inspect those locations from the inside and outside, including any intersection with a side seam. Record whether the intended continuity is visible in the finished sample. A straight demonstration strip does not resolve the thickness or appearance of the completed circular hem assembly.

Review the intended wearing state

Use the agreed adult fit reviewer and the intended styling arrangement to inspect where the hem sits. Record the sample length and footwear reference used for this review. These observations help locate the feature; they do not guarantee protection during all movement or with different shoes. Keep any abrasion investigation separate from an ordinary fit-and-appearance approval.

Quote the defined assembly rather than the label

Send the placement drawing, section view and strip reference in the RFQ. Ask MyOwnWear whether a suitable sourcing and sampling route can be proposed. Identify unresolved performance and care questions. If the supplier proposes omitting or moving the tape, request a marked alternative so the buyer can compare the actual construction change before approving the quotation scope.

What this brief does and does not establish

Kick tape is a project component label here. No standard dimensions, abrasion result, care outcome or MyOwnWear capability is asserted.

Send MyOwnWear the trouser hem section and proposed contact area; request a component-resolved sample and quotation response. Open the MyOwnWear RFQ form.

Buyer questions

Does kick tape guarantee abrasion protection?

No. Any protective performance needs evidence for the proposed assembly.

Must the strip surround the entire hem?

No. Define the intended extent in the project drawing.

Can a loose tape sample approve the hem?

No. Review the proposed strip attached to the actual trouser fabric.
