Stowaway Hoods: Review the Collar with the Hood Stored and Released
A stowaway hood needs two approvals: the hood released and the collar with the hood stored inside. Draw the storage opening and the intended folding sequence, then review the actual material combination in both states. A removable-hood sample does not answer how a stored hood changes collar bulk or access.
For streetwear outerwear developers proposing a pack-away hood.
Identify the storage compartment and its access path
Show where the hood remains attached and where it enters the collar. Draw the opening, closure and interior boundaries with the collar turned out. State whether the wearer should access it while wearing the jacket or only after removal. Ask the maker to show the proposed assembly before approving a clean external collar photograph. A hidden opening still needs a defined construction and a way to inspect the hood attachment.
Supply a repeatable folding or rolling sequence
Number the steps and identify the hood state at each stage. Include any cords, adjusters or other parts that must be stored with it, without assuming they will fit. Ask for a demonstration using the actual proposed hood fabric and trim. If the maker recommends a different storage sequence, review that proposal with the collar shape. Do not solve overfilling by omitting a required hood component without an explicit design decision.
Compare the neckline in both final states
Review the collar from front, side and back with the hood stored, then repeat with the hood released. Observe closure access, visible lumps and the relationship to the wearer’s neck using the agreed fit reference. Record whether the storage process can be repeated as demonstrated. Any weather-protection or durability claim requires separate evidence; storing the hood successfully does not establish waterproofness or an operating-cycle rating for the collar closure.
Decision and evidence checklist
| Decision | Include in the brief | Review evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Storage access | Opening, closure and attachment path | Collar turned-out construction view |
| Packing sequence | Numbered folds with all required trims | Actual-material storage demonstration |
| Collar appearance | Stored and released approval states | Matching front/side/back worn views |
What this brief does and does not establish
No compartment capacity, hood stock, weather rating or cycle durability is asserted. The storage proposal must be checked on an identified physical sample.

Buyer questions
Can a removable hood reference approve a stowaway design?
No. The collar storage compartment and the stored bulk are separate development questions.
Should the hood cords be included in the trial?
Include all components that are intended to remain in the stored assembly.
Does a successful storage trial prove rain protection?
No. Weather-related performance needs its own relevant specification and verification.
