Apparel Quote Assumptions vs Confirmed Scope: Compare Like for Like

A comparable RFQ response identifies each assumed field, the supplier's exclusions and the buyer confirmation required before the offer can be treated as complete.

MyOwnWear buyer guide · Project-specific confirmation required

Build a shared scope sheet

Use the same style, material, measurements, colorways, decoration, labels, packaging, quantity allocation and destination in every request. Mark unknown fields openly. A low quote based on omitted trims or a different fabric is not evidence that two suppliers priced the same product.

Ask for assumptions and exclusions explicitly

Require the response to list provisional substitutions, buyer-supplied items, artwork services, sample scope and packing assumptions. Put each open field beside the party expected to confirm it. Avoid relying on a total figure if its included work is unclear.

Close the gaps before comparing totals

Send clarification questions to both suppliers using the same wording. Request revised written offers after the key material and construction choices are confirmed. Keep a record of the revision date and currency or commercial basis specified in each offer without inventing a current price or validity period.

Use a decision log

Score completeness separately from commercial fit. Record the evidence behind each decision and the remaining uncertainty. A quote comparison is useful when it shows what is confirmed, what is excluded and which answer could change the buyer's choice.

Buyer decision record

Record the garment style, material or trim reference, sample size, revision and the question being decided. If the supplier proposes a change, ask for the changed layer order, measurement or artwork location in a marked response before treating the quote or sample as comparable.

Evidence scope

The linked references provide terminology or named-method scope only. They do not prove a MyOwnWear capability, a project result, a price, a lead time or a certification. Confirm the actual material, construction and acceptance criteria for the project.

Use this brief in the MyOwnWear RFQ form. Include the style, quantity, current file or sample revision and the decision you need confirmed.

Next step: ask for a written feasibility response that separates confirmed inputs from supplier-proposed alternatives, then approve the relevant sample evidence.

Keep the approved drawing, measurement or photo with the quote record so the same construction can be checked at the next handoff.

Buyer questions

Should buyers compare headline totals first?

First make sure each offer covers the same material, construction, trims, packing and destination assumptions.

How should an unknown quote field be handled?

Label it unresolved and request written confirmation rather than filling it with a guess.
